ROMA | VIA DEL TRITONE- PIAZZA POLI
Chiesa del Santissimo Sacramento
The Church of the Blessed Sacrament is an oratory in Rome, in the Trevi district, located in Piazza Poli, along Via del Tritone.
The church was erected between 1576 and 1596 for the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament of the nearby Church of Santa Maria in Via; it was restored by Carlo Rainaldi in 1681; it was then completely rebuilt in 1727. Then when Via del Tritone was opened in the 19th century, the building on the right of the church, mirroring the one still standing on the left side, was demolished, thus breaking the harmonious structure of the entire complex.
The interior of the church has a single nave; it preserves 19th-century frescoes by Luigi Martinori, a consequence of the restoration carried out by Tito Armellini between 1865 and 1867; at the high altar is a painting by Francesco Trevisani depicting the Holy Family.
