Palazzo della Ragione di Bergamo

The property is located in Piazza Vecchia in the Upper Town, which, for centuries, was the political center of the city. Located opposite the Palazzo Nuovo, and next to the Palazzo del Podestà and the Civic Tower.

The palace was built at the end of the 12th century, between 1183 and 1198, a time when the first municipal realities began to develop, and in fact in fact represents the oldest municipal palace in Italy.

At the end of the communal era, with the arrival of the Republic of Venice in the first half of the 15th century, it was used almost exclusively as a place where justice was administered, hence the name “Palazzo della Ragione.”
